The Mutual Fund Directors Forum is an independent, nonprofit corporation organized to provide independent directors of mutual funds with a forum to discuss critical issues confronting fund investors, the funds, and their directors. It seeks to promote vigilant, dedicated and well-informed independent directors and to serve as their voice and advocate on their behalf regarding important policy matters. Forum membership is limited to independent directors of U.S. registered investment companies.
Mutual funds are the choice of millions who have invested many trillions of dollars with the hope of meeting their retirement, education and other financial needs. The Forum is committed to the principle that the fiduciary duties of fund independent directors extend solely to these fund shareholders. The Forum is dedicated to assisting its members to sort between the sensitive and sometimes competing interests of fund shareholders and those of the advisors, distributors and service providers.
Recognizing that independent directors play an all important role in justifying the trust of fund investors, the Forum serves as a venue for its members to exchange ideas, experiences and information concerning important matters requiring their attention, including fund governance, relationships with counsel and auditors, evaluation of fund investment management performance, accounting and pricing issues, conflicts of interest, proxy voting, and regulatory oversight. The Forum is a positive vehicle for change advocating, best practices and reforms needed in the mutual fund industry.
The Forum conducts meetings, policy conferences, director education courses and related programs. It maintains a website intended to enhance the ability of independent directors to discharge their responsibilities to fund shareholders. In fulfilling its mission, the Forum also serves as a vehicle through which independent directors may interact with each other, as well as with the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory and governmental bodies.
