The Forum and the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance at the Yale School of Management announced that they have partnered with independent leaders of mutual fund boards of trustees to found the “Conference of Fund Leaders” (CFL), a permanent new body composed of independent board chairs and lead independent directors of mutual funds in the United States.

On May 2, 2008, the Forum Staff submitted a letter to Andrew J. Dononue, Director of the SEC's Division of Investment Management, summarizing the perspective of a number of Forum members on steps the Commission Staff and the Commission should consider to enhance the effectiveness of independent fund directors by streamlining the regulatory system.

The Department of the Treasury's Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory Structure, issued on March 31, 2008, cited the Forum's March 20 letter to the Secretary of the Treasury in the section of that report discussing regulatory changes to mutual fund regulation. The Forum had sent its letter to ensure that our views are noted as these important issues are discussed.
